Good question! Yes, our primary focus is the homeless community; however, there are so many outreach programs we're trying to start. So, with that being said, I'm going to give a few other ideas. After you've made or dropped off hats, scarves, or goodies at your local homeless shelter, and you feel the urge to do more (as you should), there is PLENTY left to do!! Over the next year, we're going to be focusing on many different populations throughout our local community, trying to make an impact, even if it's only minimal...we want to make a difference! So, here is a list of some ideas, and what to do with them!!
Continue to make hats (or buy them if you can't make them) and drop them off at the local Children's Cancer hospital-keep in mind these little angels are displaced and in a sense homeless for now too (our's is OU Children's Center)
Start making stuffed animals (again, or buy them if you don't want to learn how to make them) to drop off at your local Children's shelter (our local shelter is the J. Roy Dunning center, and drop off is the United Way)
Learn how to make patchwork quilts, or afghans so instead of hats next winter, we can give blankets to the homeless
Learn how to do needle point, or crochet American flag based memorabilia and drop it off at your local Veteran Home
Get involved with other outreach ministries, like prison ministry, or volunteer your time to help with disabled Vets, or even take your children to the local nursing home to play and bring smiles to the faces of the elderly (please pre-arrange all of these things rather than just showing up)
Carry a care package for homeless people with you (I don't know about you, but I usually encounter at least one homeless individual per week). Some ideas of what to add could include pull top canned foods, advil twin pack, plastic ware, bottled water, toiletry items, hand sanitizer, handy wipes, chapstick, contact info for nearest shelters, small Bible (local Christian stores usually carry versions that are no more than a couple dollars), and a handwritten note of kindness and encouragement
